Gareth Finlayson

Farm Manager

Gareth was born and bred in Mossburn Southland helping his father on the family farm. Gareth has over twenty three years on farm experience throughout New Zealand and Western Australia. He has worked with dry stock and on arable farms. His experience includes shepherding, block managing fattening properties, Stock Manager at Mt Linton & Little Akaloa, & crop farming in West Australia. Gareth & Anna Swanson his partner joined Linnburn in early 2016 bringing an extremely positive can do approach to what was and still is one of organised chaos.

Gareth and Anna have two beautiful children Macy and Leo.

Gareth ensures everything that needs to happen on farm happens, managing staff & contractors,  making sure stock and soil are fed and watered.

Gareth lists his passions as ‘clearly Family, Farming and solving problems. My favourite thing to do is to take family on the farm to show them what I do, I also enjoy Hunting, Fishing and Dog trials (when the dogs are up to it)’.

Jason Douglas

Stock Manager

Jason was born and raised in the Manuwatu. He has over twelve years sheep and beef experience working in intensive to extensive conventional systems to organic/ holistic systems and now regenerative.

He has completed Agito levels 3, 4 & 5 in sheep and beef and has specific passion for growing animals and seeing them perform.

He loves the outdoors and is the type of person the industry needs more of having come from a non rural background. He & his partner Elena are life smart and great attributes to the Linnburn team.

Stockman & Free Choice Mineral Expert

Matt was born and raised in Invercargill completing Certificate of Agriculture at Telford in 2012.

Matt has eight years experience working on various stations in Southland and Central Otago shepherding. Matt’s passion is farming, dogs and caring for stock watching them thrive and be full of life. Matt says he enjoys learning something new everyday like being here at Linnburn.

Matt came to Linnburn with his partner Rosie Hose and 18 month son Colt as an experienced stockman and is in charge of Free Choice Mineral feeding of stock here at Linnburn. Rosie also helps out from time to time with casual work.

Peter Barrett

Peter Barrett

Owners Representative

Peter Barrett was born in Wellington and travelled overseas in 1997 working in the UK & USA in the finance industry.

He returned to New Zealand in 2003 and started Escape Rentals – New Zealand’s first affordable campervan company.

He sold this in 2007 and two years later he founded Escape Campervans USA, growing it to be North America’s largest campervan company before relinquishing his involvement in 2016.

In 2007 Peter got involved in the high-level management of Linnburn Station – a 9300ha beef and sheep station in Central Otago.  He moved to live there in 2012 where he continues the regenerative agriculture journey emulating the natural animal-plant relationship.
